Well-Safe Solutions has agreed to acquire semisub WilPhoenix from Awilco Drilling to boost its well decommissioning fleet to three units.

Awilco reports that the agreed purchase price is $15.5 million. Well-Safe Solutions expected to take delivery in early June 2022. Optimisation and recertification requirements for future well plug-and abandonment (P&A) activity will follow. WilPhoenix has been stacked at Cromarty Firth, UK, since completing its last drilling charter with Ithaca in the UK sector last autumn. The 1983-built unit, which will be renamed Well-Safe Defender, follows Well-Safe Guardian and Well-Safe Protector into the Well-Safe Solutions fleet. Well-Safe Defender is expected to enter service in late 2022.

The sale leaves Awilco Drilling with no rigs in its fleet as stablemate semisub WilHunter is currently in the process of being sold for recycling.
