AW Ship Management Ltd selects Mimic Condition Monitoring to support vessel maintenance optimisation

James Fisher Mimic’s latest condition monitoring system, Mimic 5, has been selected by AW Ship Management Ltd to further improve vessel reliability and operational safety

AW Ship Management Ltd (AWSM) has chosen James Fisher Mimic (JFM) to deliver a full condition monitoring (CM) solution to four vessels. AWSM wanted a proven, modern, and futureproof technology to utilise and support their ongoing maintenance optimisation projects.

Mimic 5, JFM’s latest, most feature-rich version of its CM solution, will be installed on four roll-on-roll-off (Ro-Ro) vessels owned by Foreland Shipping Ltd to collect, combine, and analyse machinery vibration and performance data to enable early identification of machinery defects and proactively drive maintenance activity to improve machinery reliability and performance. The software’s fleet dashboard capability will allow AWSM to closely monitor and compare all vessels machinery health to focus their efforts on potential problem areas.

The Mimic system will vigilantly monitor critical propulsion and auxiliary machinery. Machinery performance data such as pressures, temperatures, rpm and running current will be collected by the crew using a portable mobile tablet device, and vibration data will be gathered by a handheld Bluetooth vibration accelerometer to enable a quick and easy collection solution.

There are also future plans to integrate the Mimic 5 CM software with AWSM’s incumbent Machinery Planned Maintenance System (MPMS) to provide a more holistic overview and management of vessel maintenance for onboard and office users. The Mimic 5 CM solution is fully compliant with the requirements for Lloyds Register’s MPMSCM notation, which will form an integral part of the overall condition-based maintenance strategy for AWSM. Through handheld data collection solutions to automated online and wireless data collection from vibration sensors, process sensors and vessel control systems, Mimic 5 enables condition and performance monitoring of machinery, vessels and fleets.

Bill Porteous, technical superintendent at AWSM says:

"Aligning with the global maritime industry’s digital transition, Mimic 5 is easily accessible and provides comprehensive and accurate analysis, identifying early onset issues before the possible cause of failure. The use of the Mimic 5 system will support AWSM by ensuring increased vessel reliability and availability."

Shaun Rowe, account manager at James Fisher Mimic, says:

We are delighted that AWSM has chosen JFM to be its condition monitoring software and services provider. We see this project as the beginning of a long and valuable partnership between the organisations and we look forward to working with AWSM on this and future projects."

JFM’s CM solution not only supports the future and sustainability of operations for AWSM but also stands to demonstrate the importance of CM for any ship, irrespective of factors such as age or type. Additionally, this further establishes Mimic as the leading CM solution provider in the maritime industry.
