National Maritime Week 2023: Mumbai Walked for Maritime Awareness

Mumbai - While celebrating a National Maritime Week which commenced from March 30 to April 5, and taking a weeklong Celebration forward, National Maritime Day Celebration (NMDC) Mumbai Committee, organized ‘Maritime Awareness Walk’ on April 2, 2023, to support and show a solidarity to Maritime & Marine Fraternity within the country.

The National Maritime Day is celebrated every year on April 5, in commemoration of the maiden voyage of the first Indian Vessel "S.S. LOYLTY" owned by M/s. Scindia Steam Navigation Company from Mumbai to London on April 5, 1919. The National Maritime Day recognizes the services of seafarers and services of persons and organizations, connected with the promotion and development of National Maritime Industry by giving them awards, scholarship and facilitations.

This year the country is celebrating Diamond Jubilee of National Maritime Day, and National Maritime Day Celebration (NMDC) Central Committee is organizing various programs across the country to spread the awareness.

Maritime Awareness Walked commenced from Shipping corporation of India house, covering 3 kilometers distance and ended at Shipping corporation of India house.

The Program was flagged off by The Police Commissioner of Mumbai, Shri. Vivek Phansalkar as Chief Guest, alongside guest of honours Shri Rajiv Jalota, IAS - Director General of Shipping & CMD of Mumbai Port Authority, Capt. Binesh Kumar Tyagi, CMD of Shipping Corporation of India, Dr.Pandurang Raut - Deputy Director General of Shipping and in presence of other honorable dignitaries.

The March Past Parade and Maritime Awareness Walk was full of sprit and patriotism by the Cadets  of Maharashtra Academy of Naval Education and Training (MANET), Anglo-Eastern Maritime Training CentreTolani Maritime Institute, The Great Eastern Institute of Maritime Studies, Training Ship Rahaman, Indian Maritime University - Mumbai Port Campus and Maritime Training Institute - Shipping Corporation of India, joined by over 350 Maritime Industry Professionals and Enthusiasts.
