Goa Shipyard Limited Launches Indigenous 2000 LPG Cylinder Carrier Vessel
Goa Shipyard (GSL) has launched an indigenous 2000 LPG Cylinder Carrier Vessel meant for the Union Territory of Lakshwadeep Administration.
Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) launched the indigenous LPG Cylinder Carrier Vessel for the Union Territory of Lakshadweep on Thursday, September 08 at the hands of Smt Cynthia Conceicao, senior most lady employee of GSL, in the distinguished presence of Brajesh Kumar Upadhyay, Chairman and Managing Director, Capt Jagmohan, Director (CPP&BD), customer’s representatives and senior officials from GSL.
Developed and designed by GSL as a Twin Screw Vessel for carrying 2000 nos. LPG Cylinders from the mainland to various islands of Lakshadweep, this one of its kind vessel is equipped with the most modern and technologically advanced machinery & control systems. The vessel is built with an efficient hull form for stability and sea-keeping purpose as per IRS classification rules, meeting the IMO regulations and Flag state requirements. The overall length of the vessel is 55 meters with a beam of 10 meters and is equipped with three DG sets and two 700 BHP engines.
It is noteworthy that GSL has bagged the contract of these 02 vessels amid stiff competition from both public and private yards, which strengthens GSL’s competitiveness in diversified non-defence sector shipbuilding, besides its pole position as a Defence shipbuilder executing prestigious warship projects.
On the occasion, CMD GSL said “The launch of LPG Cylinder Carrier Vessel is a major achievement for GSL as far as product diversification in the non-defence sector is concerned. Despite the challenges faced due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the last two years, it is satisfying that we will be able to deliver this ship within the next few months within the agreed timelines. The follow-on ship will also be launched in the coming months. I also extend my sincere thanks to our Lakshadweep administration and their representative SCI, for supporting GSL during the project execution.”
