Eesti Gaas brought winter gas supplies to Klaipeda
On the order of Eesti Gaas, the Equinor gas tanker Isabella delivered today the first shipload of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States to the port of Klaipeda in Lithuania. The next ship will be brought to Klaipeda in March.
"Eesti Gaas prepared early for the heating season and secured the necessary gas supply for customers. This supply will help us through the winter months, gas is distributed to everyone and the price has also fallen, as the winter has been unusually warm in Europe so far," said the chairman of the board, Margus Kaasik.
"Today, there is also an agreement regarding the next gas supply for March through Klaipeda. In the 2nd and 3rd quarters, when the Inkoo terminal has started working properly, we plan to bring gas through there as well," said Kaasik.
In the following days, LNG bunkering will take place at the Independence floating terminal, and the gas will then move to Estonia via pipelines in Lithuania and Latvia. Sailing under the Greek flag, Isabella is 295 meters long and 46 meters wide, the tanker can hold 174,130 m3 of liquefied gas.
Last year, Eesti Gaas procured five large shiploads of gas for its customers through the port of Klaipeda. The gas tanker Aristidis 1 from the United States arrived at the Lithuanian Klaipeda terminal in May, Diamond Gas Crystal from the United States and Arctic Princess from Norway in June, Isabella from the United States in October, and Arctic Aurora from Norway in November.
Eesti Gaas started using the small LNG terminal in Klaipeda, Lithuania already in 2017, in 2019 a contract was signed with Klaipeda Nafta, after which LNG was purchased through the Klaipeda Independence floating terminal and sent to the natural gas network. In addition, the company has been supplying LNG to bunkering ships with trucks and to industrial customers outside the gas network for many years.
Eesti Gaas offers customers natural gas in the form of pipeline gas, compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG) and manages the country's largest gas network. The company is actively engaged in international energy trade and develops a renewable energy portfolio in the form of solar energy and green gas (biomethane) production and sales.
Eesti Gaas operates in Finland, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland under the Elenger brand. The group has a total of 50,000 customers and 120 employees. Since 2016, when the company was acquired by Infortar, one of the largest investment companies in Estonia, Eesti Gaas has grown into the largest energy company with private capital in the Finland-Baltic region, last year foreign markets accounted for 70 percent of the company's sales.
